Attended with my elderly (83 years old) mum. Having been referred via and from a GP appointment at 11.30am who conducted a very thorough examination (45 minutes) and a ‘direct referral’ to A&E at WARRINGTON Hospital. Arrived at hospital 1pm and it took 45 minutes for me to find a car park space even though Mum is in possession fo a Blue Badge. I had to let her out of car on her own as time was passing and I then had to go a try and park (eventually way at the back of the hospital). Mum booked in on her own at approx 1.30pm. I was not happy at this as she was frail vulnerable unsteady and dizzy and very worried. Thank heavens a kindly chivalrous gentleman (another patient helped her). My mother was initially triaged and then we had to wait in waiting room and advised not to move away (to get food) incase we were called, as we would not be re-called. I was in no way going to leave my mother alone as she was and still is not well. I wanted to ensure that I was party to and understood her treatment etc. We then sat for the next 8 hours in the waiting room , with no update or information as to why we were not being seen nor when we were likely to be seen. Isn’t this a breach of protocol the 4 hour waiting time ? All the time watching the information screen increase from 3 hours 17 minutes upto 9 hours 37 minutes waiting time to be seen. Observations and Bloods were taken after a considerable period of time since first triage. A very kind nurse then recalled us some time much later in the evening to try “and get your mum off the wheelchair and onto a bed “ This did not happen We saw a doctor for the first time close to midnight who then ordered an X-ray and we were seen by him again at approx 12.30am the following day. We were released shortly after this with advise to go and see GP again for a medication review. The Doctor , radiologist and kindly nurse when we were seen were good and clear with their instructions and advice All be it that total time cumulated was in total probably little less than 1 hour. I totally accept that Children should be seen first, but surely elderly patients should then take precedence. Their well being surely to be checked on more often. However in saying this we did not observe ‘many’ or ‘any’ patients being seen treated and discharged. Surely updates should be given to patients. Upon release we then had to make our way to the rear of hospital in the cold dark and rainy night. Access to the car park being limited by exit through only certain doors. I TOTALLY accept this for security reasons. Still after having spent nearly 12 hours in the Hospital we were grateful be going home. To say we were unhappy and very disappointed by the service we received is an understatement. I appreciate that the NHS is stretched and you cannot plan for all eventualities (heavens knows what would have happened if a major incident had occurred, or a serious RTA) but surely 11 hours in an A&E before seeing a doctor is wrong. If I need to attend an A&E again with my mother I would seriously have to consider whether I would use Warrington.

Review of Ward A6 written by a patient
5th November 2019

There were a number of issues with my stay, but only in ITU and on the ward, the operations were carried out in a highly professional manner, ITU and Ward need to raise their game to meet those levels.

Review of Ward A6 written by a patient
28th October 2019

after a comedy of errors in the sau unit over the course of a week with wrong diagnosis and a certain high ranking nurse who could not be bothered to administer my morphine for the extreme pain i was in,i was sent home again on friday and was told to come back on monday because it was to late for surgery.the abcess burst on saturday and i returned to warrington hospital in an ambulance. after a week of coming and going to the sau ,i was never even offered a cup of water even after sitting waiting for hours on end,at one point i had to beg a nurse for some pain relief, i was given 2 co-codamol.i actually had nothing to eat for over 48 hours and no sleep for nearly 3 days. eventually i was taken to ward a6 where my life was changed, treated properly with compation and mainly looked after .thank you a6.

My daughter was on c23 warrington hospital following emergency c section. The midwives have no consistency in what they tell new mums. Unhelpful when it comes to breast feeding. Give opinions rather than research based knowledge. Very poor quality of care. Really poor attitude and very condesending. This culture on the ward should be investigated. Poor culture usually comes from the top. Could not believe what I was seeing. Also need to move the bins from next to patients beds. As well as being unhygienic its annoying for the mum when other patients are squeezing past the bed and curtain putting nappies in day and night.

Review of Ambulatory Care written by a patient

I was happy that the medical staff expedited my care, given the nature of it. I was assessed and given an ultrasound along with the results all within 45 minutes of arriving, which was excellent. However, after this (after getting a green light) the urgency understandably dropped, and it took over an hour just to get discharged with a prescription. I was examined by one of the most senior doctors on site. His attitude and one of his comments during the examination could easily have caused offence to someone. I took them very lightheartedly, but given that the exam was very intimate and there were four other people present, I don't think this was helpful.

Faultless. I simply had to attend today for a drop-in-anytime X-Ray but it's quite some time since I last visited the hospital. The car parking system has changed and worked well (NPR so don't forget your car registration!). Payment on exit is simple and fees are sensibly sequenced in pounds and 50p. I arrived at the X-Ray Dept very early but was greeted by a very friendly receptionist even though X-Rays didn't start for another 45 minutes. Radiographer was very friendly and effective. 10/10. The whote hospital was pristine clean and I saw litter-pickers at work in the carparks before 7am. Hope I don't have to go again just because hospitals mean you've a problem, but if I do I'll have no worries.

I attended the CAU unit today and the care and attention I received was second to none. I have been attending the SAU dept for the last few weeks and they have been brilliant. Linda Doherty (who has been attending to me on most occasions) is a credit to the trust and everything that she does is patient centred and very caring. I would not hesitate in recommending your trust to other patients. Well done

Review of Catheter Lab Warrington written by a patient
22nd August 2019

Staff were pleasant, efficient and professional. I particularly want to single out Tim Junkers. I thought I would be sedated for the procedure so was quite relaxed. However when I realised the doctor preferred not to sedate, I was quite worried. Tim realised this so quietly explained exactly what I could expect which reassured me. He then took me into the procedure area and stayed with me helping me relax right through. As a result I didn’t need sedative and was able to watch and understand what went on. Apart from the twenty minute procedure, which was uncomfortable but certainly not painful, I quite enjoyed my visit today.

Review of Accident & Emergency Department written by a patient
3rd August 2019

I contacted the 111 service online & got a call back within 15mins & an appointment within the hour. After visiting the Bath Street Clinic, Warrington , I was referred to the A& E Dept, Minors Clinic for further assessment and follow up. Considering it was weekend, you didn’t have to wait very long & all the staff were most helpful.

The care and attention of all the personnel was first class, I could not have wished for better. Everything that was going to happen was explained thoroughly from first to last. From the Consultant down to the Student nurse First class, thank you very much.
